Digital breathalyzers or the digital breath alcohol analyzers are the handy portable devices that one can use to instantly trace alcohol or its metabolites in the blood of an individual. These are the digital devices with the integrated sensors and circuits powered with digital display outputs. Most of such devices are battery powered units. The sensors used in these devices are highly accurate semi-conductor oxide sensors. Some models may also contain an advanced electric exhale pressure monitor which helps in ensuring that an accurate breath sample is obtained. This actually tests the presence of alcohol in the bloodstream. The detection range for most of the sensors is 0.00 to 0.40% BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration). It is always suggested to use only those devices that meet the DOT and/or NHTSA guidelines. The window of detection for breath alcohol testing is however small and results are expected to be confirmed by laboratory blood testing which may not be the same many hours after suspected consumption. Nevertheless, these breathalyzers are certainly useful with fairly accurate detection of alcohol consumption.
